The Cricket Club of India (CCI) was established on 8th November 1933 as a private club with the primary aim of promoting cricket and various other sports within the nation. Its significant contributions to the world of sports, particularly in cricket, have earned it a distinguished place not only in India but globally.

The concept of founding this esteemed institution was set in motion by Grant Govan, a British entrepreneur based in Delhi. The club was built on a reclaimed expanse of 90,000 square yards situated along the Arabian Sea, generously provided by Lord Brabourne, the Governor of Bombay at that time. The expansive stadium erected on this land, known as Brabourne Stadium, was ceremoniously inaugurated on 7th December 1937 by hosting a cricket match between Lord Tennyson’s XI and CCI.

Since then, Brabourne Stadium has been a witness to a myriad of prestigious cricket tournaments and matches. Notable events hosted include the renowned Pentangular Tournament, India's first-ever test match against West Indies, the ICC Champions’ Trophy, and India's first T20 international match against Australia on Indian soil. Recently, CCI accommodated the Mumbai Indians team during the third season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 3), attracting a high-profile audience and filling its stands to capacity.

While cricket holds a paramount position at CCI, the club also nurtures other sports such as tennis, badminton, squash, billiards, snooker, and swimming. It has played host to numerous esteemed international events in these disciplines, including ATP Tournaments. Apart from sporting affairs, Brabourne Stadium has been a venue for grand cultural events and musical concerts featuring performances by icons like John McLaughlin, Placido Domingo, and Rolling Stones.

Presently, CCI stands as a frontrunner in the realm of sports in India. It is revered as one of the most elite clubs in the country with reciprocal agreements with numerous esteemed sports clubs worldwide.
